While reading my last blog I felt you might want more info about my surgery. I suffer from plantar fascia fibromatosis. Whats that? you ask yourself. It is fibroid tumors growing on the bottom of my foot. So the doctor removed the tumors and the fascia out of my foot. Sounds gruesome and it does hurt like hell but in six months it will be fine.
So on to more tips. Never let a singer know what outboard gear you are using, once he knows hell feel he can tell you how do it better. Remember to keep secrets because there is always someone gunning for your job. I know that seems paranoid but Im telling the truth. When youre not in earshot from your band theres always another sound guy telling them how bad you do sound. The trick is to not worry and act like it doesnt bother you. If you act worried your band will lose faith in you. The best way deal with this is to laugh and then ask what pro gigs has that guy ever had. Trust me if youre doing your job right the audience will let the band know how good it sounds. If youre really good at your job you will develop fans that will come to hear you mix and will follow you from band to band recording your mixes. Audiophiles are a good indication that your mixes are good.
Healing Well

Yes I’m healing from foot surgery on my left foot. I was thinking that I might give some tips on live mixing and what I experienced working on the road. Now that I have retired from the road I can tell all. I’m just talking about mixing not about the bands. What happens on the road stays on the road. Trust me girl friends can be sneaky on trying to get info out of you about there boy friends. Something you might think as innocent could get blow way out of proportion. As a sound guy watch what you say and who you say it to. One good rule of thumb is to never talk shit about anyone and work on your craft. This will keep you working on the road as long as you want.
